I remember getting my first squadron catalog in 73 or 74...had the Tamiya T-34 1942 (single turret hatch) on the cover. Received their monthly flyers while at college, in the military... until they quit printing them. They were my main source for kits, paint (Humbrol enamels) and especially books/reference materials, most of which i still have and use. It's where i came across Osprey publishing. I lived in Maryland, just a few miles from the Squadron Shop on Sligo Dr; after I moved to Detroit, the store moved even closer to where I lived in Kensington, on Georgia Ave I believe it was. I also got to visit the the store on John R in Detroit. I still have some of the flyers from the 80s. Visiting the stores and seeing the finished models in the cases made me realize this was a "serious" hobby and that it could me more than gluing a few pieces of plastic together in an afternoon. Glad they are back, but i don't buy much from them; don't carry too much of what i build anymore. Still have some of the VLS catalogs. I remember the "Mascot Models" very well. Valley Plaza Hobbies was another mail order place iI purchased a lot from, specialized in figures. Chota Sahib, Stadden, Cheshire Volunteer. All gone now....

I was ordering from SQUADRON when they were selling out of HAZELPARK MICHIGAN ( DETROIT ) I had their SQUADRON MAGAZINE also had the Giant Product Catalog… The last time I ordered anything from SQUADRON was long before 2017….. Glad everything arrived in one piece! 2 Romulan ships! It can be a small world... I am so glad you're enjoying all that stuff-- I thought I knew who would make good, historical interest of it. I used to go over everything back in the day. And yep, Andy was so damn well informed, anything he wrote was interesting. Geez, I think I have some Lunar Models catalogs too.

The one thing you did not mention was how you got air out of the model itself. I think you're right about the amount of glitter-- but experimenting seems time consuming! I was satisfied with the empty snow globe idea... but this is really spectacular. Next one should have lights around the bottom!

You're a brave RUclipsr, working with a cat. The Cat Modeling Channel... You had not mentioned that you were going to immerse this guy in water. Is the figure watertight? I would'a thought you'd blue tint the interior... Well, I can't wait to see how the bubbles do.

Snowglobes, that is a great idea for dio's :) You do have to think about what paints and glues to use that can withstand the water.

I like big robots as much as the next fellow-- but all the made-up naming takes away for me. Plus those giant, over-sized vanes and spiky shapes just don't seem to have anything to do with something mission oriented. I dunno-- maybe it's me...

What about doing ceiling tile dioramas for the Ark like you used to do for your hobby shop? You can attach them to the plywood ceiling, and I think they make them smaller sizes.

I can't recall what got me watching something about a big aircraft carrier. It was all about just how big and crazy it was. There were regular franchises aboard-- like McDonalds and TacoBell. And Starbucks. The images you found would tell me pretty much anything goes as far as design. Nothing in the Starbuck manual about building a counter on a Naval vessel. I say, to scratchbuild the facade. But I would seek out that coffee time thingie and just use the props. A great big ship logo on the floor? Those Navy boys and girls are pretty crazy-- easy to imagine getting a vinyl sign or just paint it right there. Really cool build-- quite inspired.

I used to collect toys and action figures (400+ MOC / MIB TMNT figures) but stopped to concentrate on models kits. A collection is only a collection while your still collecting - ONCE YOU STOP IT'S JUST STUFF!

I have many hobbies, Model kits, Painting, Drawing and sculpting are the main ones, but I would have to say the most expensive of all of them, is the wife !
